about

Desire to escape was always an important part of the utopian universe of the blues. The opening verses of the magnificent song “Down the Dirty Road Blues”, recorded by Charley Patton in 1929, are an eloquent example of that: “I’m goin’ away, to a world unknown / I’m worried now, but I won’t be worried long.” Hope in the unknown, whether it’s another city, another country, the Indian nation, or even death, is the other side of deserting from a too distressing everyday life. Also in many books that fill our memory, the choice of the authors for imagining non-existent places seems to follow that same logic: the real world is not enough for the words we want to say, for the scenarios where we want to move, for the characters we want to be. What we seek to sketch here is a possible soundtrack for a journey through some of those imaginary places.

Written, performed and produced by Fernando Ramalho in October and November 2016 in Barreiro.

Um eloquente exemplo disso são os versos que abrem a magnífica canção «Down the Dirty Road Blues», gravada por Charley Patton em 1929: «I’m goin’ away, to a world unknown / I’m worried now, but I won’t be worried long.»
